| Mom, 24 x 26, oil on canvas
Mom was inspired by an argument with my mother, but developed into a statement about motherhood and its difficulties. Here, a large loaf of bread is stabbed, red and blue cloths run out around a receptacle, eggs are broken, bottles stand ready and various mysterious, menacing devices float around as an implied birth is played out in simple objects. The spiked coconut on the left is a surreal object Id make that just seemed relevant. The result is a balanced and silent testimony to the emergence from ones own body of a life form that may actually turn and make life not so wonderful. |
