Flag and Rose was the last in the series of Flag paintings, though I would still use a flag later. Here, I was still referencing the expected fourth Wheel and Vessel painting as before. As with Flag and Yellow Leaf, though, there is a sentimental quality to this piece and I think it was this pull that broke me away from my previous plans and made way for the more analytical paintings that were to come.
