Gaia - 60 x 72 - oil on canvas
Gaia is the third, large piece in the early series of Wheel and Vessel paintings, and as such was intended as a turning point in which life becomes dominant and stable in respect to speed, according to my earlier themes. Here, a larger, heavier container prevails, while a tattered tire rests subdued in the corner. Light from the window suggests a sense of hope, while other symbols convey both comforting and disturbing reminders of the real world. Gaia, a Greek Goddess is also the name given to a contemporary theory of an intelligent earth and the maturation of our species. |
