I’ve Been Inside represents the classical idea of the cosmic tunnel, the passageway between life and death, or the central canal of the spine through which the kundalini or life force rises as it travels from the root chakra to the crown chakra resulting in enlightenment.  Here, a small, central figure representing the disembodied consciousness flies up the vast passage toward a realm of pure, white light.  Subsidiary tunnels can be seen at several points emptying into the main one.  Torrents of light and energy rush and swirl along the tube as the process of life unfolds.  The painting was inspired by a series of personal experiences I had doing yoga when I was 19 years old.
