Gary Jacobs Money

Money - 14 x 17 - oil on canvas

Money was a natural choice in the geometric shapes series, which at the time I was calling the “Sin Series.” Here, some measly tokens of minimal value call to mind the powerful fixations we have on such currency. The fact that I was quite poor at the time added to my interest in the subject, as did the technical intricacy in representing the bills. A gallery later asked me to paint money in larger denominations, which I declined to do.
