State - 14 x 17 - oil on canvas

State was the final piece in the series of geometric shape paintings and reprised the flag themes that preceded it. As such, it represented a natural end, although many, many others were planned or in the works. This was probably the most realized composition in terms of balance and complexity though, and in retrospect it was perhaps this quality that led to the extremely ambitious paintings that followed.
